What Does A Cocaine Addict Act Like? Signs of An Addict

What Does A Cocaine Addict Act Like?

Cocaine addiction is one of the most serious forms of addiction dealt with in recovery. If you suspect a loved one might be using or even worse abusing cocaine, there are certain signs to look for. When high, they will exhibit certain behavioral cues that might let you know that they are using cocaine. When withdrawing from the drug, they might also show signs and symptoms of drug withdrawal.

Behavioral signs of cocaine use

Someone who is using cocaine might:

– Exhibit signs of intense stimulation, excitement, or overblown confidence.
– Experience weight loss due to loss of appetite.
– Stay awake for long periods of time and display a lot of fast, pressured speech
– Rub nose a lot
– Display signs of aggression at things that don’t call for aggression
– Acts paranoid

These are just a few of the effects of cocaine. They are the most visible of the signs of abuse, although they are just the tip of the iceberg. Over time, as a person uses cocaine more and more often and then can’t obtain the drug, you might notice the person “crashing” after use as well. They might stop doing anything they love or swing wildly back and forth between the intense confidence of the high and the extreme low of the come-down. Mood swings and very noticeable shifts in activity and personality will usually be present in a cocaine addict. Being addicted to drugs is dangerous. Not only for the user but for those around them as well.

Keep in mind that these behaviors don’t just come on suddenly. You might notice them all at once one day and not at all on other days. In the beginning when the person isn’t using as often or hasn’t gone into full-blown addiction, there may be long periods of time where you don’t notice the high or the comedown. Most addicts are ashamed of their behavior and go to great lengths to hide their addiction from loved ones, so you have to be on the lookout for these behavioral signs and cues in order to really see them over a period of time. If you’re concerned, calling a detox for further information is often a good idea.

If you have someone in your life that you believe might be abusing cocaine, it’s always best to seek help first. The most obvious signs will be those that exhibit themselves during the “high.” Speech will be fast, there will be an overblown sense of self-confidence in the user, and they will be much more active than usual, sometimes staying awake for long periods of time even when it seems there’s no reason to do so. Confronting the addict early on isn’t always the best idea. Often it’s best to suggest that they talk to someone in order to get help for anything that might going on. The best way to handle the situation will always be to seek professional guidance first before confronting the addict.

Cocaine use continues to be an extremely serious and life-threatening problem. If someone you love exhibits any of these signs and symptoms, please seek professional help in order to know the next best step. Inevitably, a detox will be of most help for sufferers.
