Detoxing from a substance is something that thousands of Americans choose to do each year. It’s a brave decision to make a better way of life for yourself. Many alcoholics and addicts go into treatment not knowing quite what to expect. They may perceive treatment as something entirely different than it really is. While inpatient detox definitely restricts activities in the world outside of the treatment, it’s actually a place of freedom. During the course of substance abuse, people lose their freedom to make decisions in their own lives. They may be so addicted to a substance or drink that they can’t decide when to work, when to communicate in a healthy way, and most of all, when enough is enough.
