What it’s like going through Benzo Rehab

An addiction to benzodiazepines is a very serious thing, and you should therefore take a serious approach when it comes to treating it. Benzodiazepines are widely prescribed and commonly involved in cases of drug overdose and substance abuse. They are commonly categorized by half-life duration. The classic presentation of a patient with an isolated benzodiazepine overdose consists of Central nervous system depression with normal vital signs. Severe overdose can cause respiratory depression and stupor or coma. Coingestants are common in cases of overdose.

Benzo rehab and detox centers can make a world of difference when it comes to become healthier and happier as a person especially if you are motivated to quit benzo abuse.

What to Expect

You will certainly want to know what to expect when going through a rehab program. The process of getting clean can be difficult even in a clinical setting, and it’s important that you are prepared for the experience. When you take the time to read all the information in this article, you will be in a much better position to get clean and stay that way for the rest of your life.

Sitting down with a Substance Abuse Specialist

Before you roll up your sleeves and start doing the hard work that is necessary to get clean from benzos, you will first have to sit down with a substance abuse specialist to answer some questions. You can expect the staff member to ask you about how long you have been using benzos and how bad you believe your addiction to be. It is crucial that you answer all questions truthfully, because your answers will ultimately decide what your treatment program will be like. The more honest you are in answering these questions, the more likely you will be to get the help you need.

Detoxification

The detoxification process will require you to go through benzo withdrawals. The onset of withdrawal varies according to the half-life of the benzodiazepine involved. Symptoms may be delayed up to three weeks in Benzodiazepines with long half-lives, but may appear as early as 24 to 48 hours after cessation of BZDs with short half-lives. The severity and duration of withdrawal is determined by many factors, including the period of BZD use, how rapidly use was tapered, the pharmacokinetics of the particular drug, as well as possible genetic factors. Although the onset and duration of withdrawal symptoms can vary widely based on these variables, most patients experience symptoms that last from one to two weeks, although there is a small subset that can experience prolonged symptoms

While Benzo detox definitely won’t be a very pleasurable experience, you must do it in order to get clean. There are a wide variety of withdrawal symptoms that you might experience during this phase of your recovery, so you will want to be prepared for them as much as possible.

Some of the more common symptoms of benzo withdrawal include:

  • Pounding headaches
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Panic attacks
  • Nightmares

The medical professionals that work at the rehab center you are at will carefully monitor your condition while you are going through benzo withdrawals to make sure that nothing goes wrong. Sometimes people who detox from these drugs are given certain medications to help with the discomfort, though not everyone gets them. A doctor at the facility you are at will determine whether or not you will require any of these medications when you first check yourself in.

Treatment

The three primary treatments of benzo addiction include counseling, therapy, and education. These treatment methods can be extremely effective when it comes to keeping people off benzos, though you will have to take an active role and participate in order to reap the rewards.

Through your counseling, therapy and education sessions, you will learn about how to recognize personal triggers and effective ways of overcoming your addiction. The classes that these rehab centers offer will provide you with very valuable tools and resources that you can use long after you finish the program.

You will also meet with a certain counselor and therapist on a regular basis to discuss various things pertaining to your addiction. Group therapy sessions are often a large part of these programs, so you should be prepared to fully participate in them. In these group sessions you will be able to share how you are feelings with people who are also addicted to drugs, whether it is benzos or something else.

Medication is sometimes used as a short-term treatment strategy for benzo addiction, though it is reserved for only chronic addicts. Therapy and counseling will be the main forms of treatment that you can expect to receive when going to one of these rehab centers. There are multiple forms of therapy that are used, depending on the patient and treatment center.

How long does the process take?

The process for treating benzo addiction can take anywhere from 30 days to upwards of 90, depending on the severity of the patient’s addiction. Chronic benzo addicts sometimes need extensive stays in a rehab inpatient program in order to effectively deal with their problem. The initial withdrawal and detox from the drugs shouldn’t take more than one or two days, though you will most likely experience symptoms beyond that period.

It is important to view the time that you spend at a rehab center as an investment in your own health and well-being. When you spend enough time at one of these places, you will give yourself the best chance of remaining clean after you leave.

If you still have a few more questions, take a look at our FAQ’s below:

  • Research studies on addiction treatment have shown that some alcohol and substance addiction treatment and follow-up procedures are more successful than others. At Detox of South Florida, we emphasize on using the best approaches in alcohol or drug detox.

  • Our goal is to ensure that all our patients regain their physical and mental states of health. Our treatment is therefore tailored to address each patient’s unique conditions. The treatment involves a combination of detoxification procedures such as opiate detox, alcohol detox, and heroin detox, just to mention a few, with other intervention procedures such as group and individual therapy, relapse prevention education, after-care planning, and in-house completion programs aimed at ensuring long-term sobriety and prevention of relapses.

  • Every patient has his or her unique type and level of addiction which is why the treatment period will normally vary from one individual to another. While some patients go through a 30-day rehab program, others will require a 60-day or 90-day program to recover from alcohol or drug addiction. The time it takes to recover will depend on the assessment report provided by the assigned medical professional who evaluates your case.

  • As the best rehab in Florida, we believe a relapse should not be viewed as a failure but rather as a sign to help you get back on track by making necessary adjustments to your treatment.

  • Our rates generally depend on the services provided. The overall cost will be determined by factors such as professional treatment fees, facilities, food, and utilities.

  • Unlike other addiction treatment centers across the country, at Detox of South Florida, we take your treatment and recovery process very seriously. Your treatment against addiction is a comprehensive process that may be affected by unwarranted interruptions. All visitations must, therefore, be approved well in advance by the treating therapist. We do this to ensure that your safety, focus on recovery, and stability are maintained at all times. The only visitors allowed are significant members of your family and close friends.
