An estimated 50% of teens have used illicit or prescription drugs at least once in their lifetime.  Furthermore, 23.6% of high school seniors have used illicit drugs within the past 12 months. Teen drug abuse can cause severe and sometimes permanent damage to the mind and body.  While most teen drug-use cases are recreational, short-term use can result in long-term dependency.

This is a facet of social drug use that your son or daughter may not be considering.  Welcome to the Florida Teen Rehab guide; an in-depth and comprehensive write-up including information on teen addiction, treatments, and available recovery options.

A Unique Recovery Experience for Teens Struggling with Addiction

Drug Rehab Center at Florida for Teens

Welcome to Detox of South Florida, we’re an award-winning recovery facility and are often times referred to as the Best Drug Rehab for Teens.  We provide addiction education and recovery services for teens that are in the early or latter stages of addiction.  Teen addiction is a delicate matter and is one that should not go unattended.

In the early stages of life, as we mentally develop, it’s vital for the growth process to take place without the influence of illicit drugs. The impact of drug-use on the lives of teens can be quite severe and can cause repercussions such as falling behind academically, becoming distanced from friends and family, and losing perspective on what matters in life (in addition to health complications).

In these moments where intervention is needed, Detox of South Florida plays a vital role in providing the teen with the support, relief, and treatment(s) needed for the addiction to be succeeded, permanently.  Unfortunately, in the 21st century, drugs have become increasingly more potent and much easier to obtain. The presence of drugs at teen events and schools makes it easier than ever for adolescents to acquire their drugs of choice.

If you’re reading this it’s because you’re looking for a recovery solution to help yourself or your son/daughter to become independent from the life of drug-use.  In our teen drug rehabilitation program, we provide Drug Detox for teens so symptoms and undesirable withdrawals can be managed early on.  This allows recovering teens to experience recovery without having to worry about prolonged symptoms.

At our facility, teens are provided with a recovery experience that won’t be found elsewhere.  A good majority of the recovering teens we treat fly in from all over the US to utilize the extensive experience we have in this field of care.  All components of all stages of substance abuse are taken in to account when treatment plans are curated to enable teens to reach their full recovery potential.

Through teen drug detox, rehab, and alternative therapy programs; parents can rest assured knowing that Detox of South Florida is well-equipped and prepared to help end the addiction.

Most Commonly Abused Drugs and Substances of Teenagers

Drugs are available nearly everywhere.  They come in multiple forms; sometimes synthetic, sometimes in the natural form.  Some of today’s most popular drugs have been around for quite some time – decades.  Some on the other hand are newer and have sprouted up in more recent times (“molly” for example).  Detox of South Florida has vast experience in treating teen addictions of all types and severities.  Adolescents at our facility come to us for treatment with addictions to mainstream drugs and dependency to substances that are lesser-known but still equally dangerous and addictive.

As a parent of a teenager struggling with addiction it’s important to begin learning how addiction works and the steps you can take to begin helping the adolescent through treatment.  Do your research, learn as much as you can, and choose a Teen Drug Rehab that you believe is suitable for the recovery needs of your child.

While there are certainly many more illicit drugs used by teens, the ones that are most popular among adolescents include:

  • Mushrooms
  • LSD (also referred to as “acid”)
  • Inhalants
  • Ecstasy (now more commonly referred to as “Molly”)
  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Synthetic Marijuana
  • Marijuana

Prescription-strength medications are also commonly abused by teenagers; it’s something to definitely look out for.  Xanax; a drug formulated to treat anxiety disorders, is one example of a very commonly used and abused prescription drug.  Even if such medication isn’t missing from your medicine cabinet or pill bottle, the teen is still capable of acquiring such drugs from suppliers of illicit drugs.  Stealing prescription medication from friends or even family members may also be occurring depending on how severe urges are.

There are many prescription medications on the market but the most commonly abused by teens include:

  • Xanax
  • Oxycodone
  • Vicodin
  • Ritalin
  • Adderall
  • Ambien
  • Codeine

Nowadays we see more and more teens becoming involved in drug use at earlier stages of life and it’s concerning to say the least.  From a statistical standpoint, when it comes to seniors in high school, 7% have reported using Adderall and 35% had reported smoking marijuana; within the past year.  When it comes to 8th graders, those figures respectively drop to 1% and 12%. Still, those figures mirror the thousands of young teenagers throughout the US that are suffering from a substance abuse disorder.

What are Signs of Teen Drug Abuse?

Many teenagers will experiment with various drugs, substances, or activities.  Unfortunately, teens exploring the use of drugs can mature in to long-term abuse and ultimately, addiction.  Studies show that the problem of drug abuse among teens is one that’s ever-growing. Aside from drugs such as Ecstasy, cocaine, and other social drugs, a recent study conducted by “Monitoring the Future” concluded that the most popular drugs of choice by teens include marijuana (31.5 percent), Vicodin (9.7 percent), amphetamines (8.1 percent), cough medications (6.9 percent), and sedatives (6.6 percent).

Should teenagers continue to use such substances without treatment intervention, serious medical complications could emerge not only in the short-term but in to adulthood as well.  Certainly, no parent wants to see their child suffer from addiction. Having to worry about getting a phone call one day about an overdose or death occurring is a nightmare to even contemplate.  There are many signs that you can learn to determine if your adolescent is using drugs which we’re going to provide below. This way, you can determine to which extent the teens addiction has matured and choose a rehab option that’s suitable.

Signs of a teenager being addicted to drugs

Is the teenager running in to more problems than normal with the law?

Drug abuse and dependency usually results in diminished abilities to make the right choices.

Teens suffering from addiction, because of their maturity level at that age, are more susceptible to making poor decisions when under the influence of drugs.  As such, if your child has been encountering the police more frequently and is getting in to trouble, even mischievously, this could be a sign that drug-use is behind the problem.

Is the teenager falling behind academically or getting in fights in school?

Teenagers experiencing addiction tend to begin caring less about grades, will begin to have a tendency to be tardy to classes, and will encounter an influx in altercations with others (which may result in suspensions).

Do you notice the teenager having unusual mood swings?

If so, drug abuse may be to blame.  Since drugs change the chemical makeup and cognitive function of the mind, the mood of the user can abruptly change from one second to the next; especially during times of withdrawals.  Depending on the drug(s) used, withdrawals can begin to occur in a matter of minutes (which would cause a noticeable change in mood and behavior).

Is he/she losing interest in once enjoyed activities?

Many of the teenagers experiencing addiction will begin to slowly shift their focus and enjoyments away from activities that don’t involve substances.  It’s very common for teen addicts to lose interest in hobbies that were once very much enjoyed. Addiction for teenagers can arrive to a point where no activity other than that of using drugs is appealing.  An abrupt or slowing decreasing loss in interest in previously enjoyed functions may be a sign that the teen is in fact abusing drugs.

Have you found drug paraphernalia in the teen’s belongings?

If yes, than drug use is most likely occurring.  A discussion with the teen about the finding should take place and treatment options should be presented and discussed.

Are you noticing violent behavior?

A common behavioral trait among teen drug users is anger-driven outbursts.  Many times, the teen will come across as being angry or unsettled for no apparent reason.  If such behavior is taking place, drug use might be as well.

Is the teen demonstrating signs of withdrawals?

Sweating, twitching, being cold one second and hot the next – these are all signs of withdrawals although vary significantly depending on the drug(s) used.  If serious signs emerge seek medical attention immediately as withdrawals in some cases can become fatal.

Is the teen becoming depressed?

Especially when going through withdrawals, depression can really begin to gain momentum for the victim.  Even for the happiest of teens, depression is a struggle for many as the process of “coming down” (as users often times say) can cause depression as the high from the drug begins to diminish.  During the “come down” process, withdrawals and urges can be intense. When such cravings aren’t accommodated, depression can and many times will be encountered.

Is your teenager beginning to care less about hygiene?

If so, then drug use may be the culprit.  A common trait among drug users of all ages, not just teens, is that many will begin to care less about their appearance and cleanliness.  If your teen was once caring about appearance and hygiene and is no longer maintaining healthy self-hygiene habits, drug use may be the causing reason.

Is your teenager losing money frequently?

If so, than drug use is “more than likely” the cause.  Addicts losing money is an ongoing occurrence. However, the money is never lost; it’s spent on drugs.  If the teenager receives funds from you that gets “lost” nearly each and every time, it’s not too difficult to figure out what’s occurring.

If you still have a few more questions, take a look at our FAQ’s below:

  • Research studies on addiction treatment have shown that some alcohol and substance addiction treatment and follow-up procedures are more successful than others. At Detox of South Florida, we emphasize on using the best approaches in alcohol or drug detox.

  • Our goal is to ensure that all our patients regain their physical and mental states of health. Our treatment is therefore tailored to address each patient’s unique conditions. The treatment involves a combination of detoxification procedures such as opiate detox, alcohol detox, and heroin detox, just to mention a few, with other intervention procedures such as group and individual therapy, relapse prevention education, after-care planning, and in-house completion programs aimed at ensuring long-term sobriety and prevention of relapses.

  • Every patient has his or her unique type and level of addiction which is why the treatment period will normally vary from one individual to another. While some patients go through a 30-day rehab program, others will require a 60-day or 90-day program to recover from alcohol or drug addiction. The time it takes to recover will depend on the assessment report provided by the assigned medical professional who evaluates your case.

  • As the best rehab in Florida, we believe a relapse should not be viewed as a failure but rather as a sign to help you get back on track by making necessary adjustments to your treatment.

  • Our rates generally depend on the services provided. The overall cost will be determined by factors such as professional treatment fees, facilities, food, and utilities.

  • Unlike other addiction treatment centers across the country, at Detox of South Florida, we take your treatment and recovery process very seriously. Your treatment against addiction is a comprehensive process that may be affected by unwarranted interruptions. All visitations must, therefore, be approved well in advance by the treating therapist. We do this to ensure that your safety, focus on recovery, and stability are maintained at all times. The only visitors allowed are significant members of your family and close friends.
